ING LUGUD QUENG INDUNG BALEN
by Ernie C. Turla – June 29, 2006

Language Policy based on Nationalism

Ala nang muna pa queng balen cung tibuan
Nung ing lugud labuad ya ing pisasabian
Dapot nung atin mang lugud pang lumagpas
Ing mismung baryu cu caya que iparas

Bah, atin pa pala, ding puruc at sityu
Nu tamu magbili nung deti ala lu
Pasigui queng centru careng pusu tamu
Ing mula’t pamilia, ‘guiang capurit yamu!

Caibat da ngan deti, ing probincia naman
Ya ing quecatamung caulan at luguran
Cuntoru ing lugal quen yang tatacbangan
Canita nia pin man ning pusu palsintan

Caibat cong alugud deting mesambitla
Canita cu pa mu abie ing queng bansa
Uling queng pusu cu, malaguat salita
Deng pa-lapit-lapit ilang mumuna pa

Pamilia at baryu, balen at probincia
Mituqui-tuqui la reti queng distancia
Manibat queng pusu palual qng marayu
Ila ring macamal canacung paglualu

At careng salita macanian mu naman
Alang lumabis pa queng Amanung Sisuan
Como quebait que queng Balen cung Tibuan
Ya ing pagmayring cu queti qng sicluban

Ing panga-tau cu queni magumpisa
Amanu at Balen sibul no ning sinta
Ilang pacalabcab queng api at baya
Ilang babie diwa, taguimpan, ligaya

Pero macanian man e quia rin calinguan
Bansang Pilipinas perlas ning aslagan
Careng anggang bansa ustung queng arapan
Mumuna yang dili iti yang catutuan

Uling ing lugud cu queca, Pilipinas
Maniampucaque neng panyatu ing labas
Samantala naman ustung pan-queti mu
Siempre ing pecamal ya pin ing Balen cu.

Macanian pang tune ing nasyunalismu
A sucat miyusuc careng anac tamu
Nung ali anti tang asan a bilasa
Neng tiwalag tala: Balen at Salita.

Sampulunan cu ne ing buri cung sabian
At yampang que careng catu-Capampangan
Balicdan yang muna’ing balen tang ibatan
Ban dasan taya ing quecatang pupuntan.

This poem I’ve written in a hurry as we are about to leave for Sacramento to attend a class reunion and stay there till the Fourth, reflects my thoughts on what nationalism which is somewhat misplaced in some people, really means. It can also be sung to the tune of a polosa, although that is not recommended owing to the seriousness of the subject that is supposed to induce patriotic fervor. /Ernie Turla

Excerpts from other correspondence:

…atin mu namang “ongoing language genocide”
o “ethnic cleansing” o “ethno-linguistic weeding” –
all for the sake of “cultural uniformity”.

“We don’t at all need things ‘national’ since we are
really a conglomerate of little nations originally called barangay
(the largest unit of government existing in the Philippine islands
when the Spaniards arrived).”

…paquicuanan tang apaquit careng cayanacan ngeni qng ing Capampangan magsilbi yang gamitan bilang pan-comunicacion queng pamanyulat. Qng ing carelang salita, e ya talagang mitauli careng aliwa, at acaquit da namn iti careng cawatasan tang susulat ampo careng mensahi tamung macasulat queng Capampangan.
